ATV/UTV Winter Riding
Per Florence County Ordinance you are able to ride ATV/UTV's (Side by Side) on GROOMED snowmobile trails when the temperature is below 28 degrees Fahrenheit.
These Trails are Dual Use Trails. Green & Red or purple on the 2023 Blue Ox Trail Map.
If you leave and its 24 degrees Fahrenheit, and it warms up to 28 degrees or warmer you need to get off the trails.
Now the question is what is a trail versus a Route?
Routes do not have the temperature restriction. For example, from Spread Eagle to Florence via Montgomery Lake Road is a route and is open year round.
Routes are paved or gravel roads that are marked in orange.
Trails are marked green on the Blue Ox Trail Map.
You cannot ride a side by side on trails that are marked for snowmobile only, the red trail color on the trail map.
For example, the C2 trail, old railroad grade, from Iron Mountain to Florence to the Brule River bridge is open to both ATV/UTV's (Side by Side) and Snowmobiles in the winter when the temperature is below 28 degrees Fahrenheit.
The 28 degree rule only applies AFTER the trails are groomed for snowmobile use. Until then, ATV/UTV's (Side by Sides) are allowed on trails regardless of temperature until the spring thaw.
